For couples with a limitless budget choosing a wedding ring set is simply a matter of shopping around and finding a set which looks great. For the rest of us on a limited budget, we also have to take into consideration the prices of the sets which we like. To avoid any financial trouble we need to set a budget before we start to shop around. Without setting a budget it is easy to get carried away and spend more than you can really afford to.

Once you have decided on a budget you can then begin to have a look at what options you have within this budget. Many people like the combination of precious metals such as gold, platinum or silver with gemstones like diamonds, sapphires or emeralds. However, to stay within budget you may need to compromise and choose a non-precious metal, cheaper gemstone or both. It is important to bear in mind that the wedding and engagement rings are symbolic, and that the actual marriage is the most important thing. Having said that, even with a small budget you will be able to afford some very attractive and high-quality rings which look expensive despite their small pricetag.
Ring Metals
When it comes to ring metals the traditional choice for many years has been yellow gold. If you like the look of yellow gold but don't have the budget for a 22 carat gold ring, it may be worth considering a ring with a lower concentration of gold such as a 9 carat ring. Lower carat gold rings have the advantage of being harder and are more able to resist wear, and can be considerably cheaper.
Another popular metal for wedding rings is platinum but it is very expensive and for around half the price of platinum you could have a white gold ring instead. A cheaper option if you like the look of platinum or white gold would be titanium or tungsten both of which are resistant to wear and are cheaper than white gold. Both titanium and tungsten rings are currently very fashionable and come in a number of contemporary and traditional designs.
Gemstones
Gemstones can add significantly to the price of a wedding ring, particularly in the case of large diamonds. If the size or number of diamonds you want is out of your price range you can either consider having fewer or smaller diamonds or choose something much cheaper such as cubic zirconia (CZ). This is very close to diamond in appearance and can make an excellent alternative.
Where To Buy
If you know your ring sizes the best place to find cheap wedding ring sets is on the internet. You will be able to look at a large range of different ring sets and compare prices easily. It has the disadvantage however that you cannot touch or try on the rings. If you feel that you need to try on the rings before you buy, it may be best to buy from a good local jeweller.
